After pickup from your hotel in the Barahona area, drive along the spectacular coastal road to Bahoruco. Well hidden in the mountains, you will visit the only existing Larimar Mine in the world, the blue stone exclusive to the Dominican Republic. Discovered in 1974, this stone is scratch resistant and very easy to polish, and is used to make uniquely beautiful jewelry. Arriving at the mine, you'll have a tour around the area with the opportunity to talk to the miners before taking a refreshing dip into the waters of a natural pool and enjoying a traditional lunch at a local restaurant before heading back to your accommodation in Barahona.
